Officials in the town of Lexington have ordered a fiber optic company to stop work. The order comes after Lumos Fiber damaged a water main in the town's Westbrook neighborhood and left residents without service earlier this week. The stop-work order will be in effect for one week, after which the company can resume work if the plan gets municipal approval. Lumos has been criticized for similar incidents in other South Carolina cities in recent years, which have resulted in temporary work stoppages in Columbia and Irmo.
The National Weather Service is issuing a tornado warning for much of northeastern South Carolina. Tornadoes are possible as far south as Charleston as forecasters warn of severe weather in the Pee Dee region and parts of the Midlands and Lowcountry. Residents could also see winds of up 70 miles-per-hour and isolated hail.
