The public hearing was held Thursday by the South Carolina Public Service Commission to learn how Duke Energy’s proposed rate hike would affect customers. Duke Energy is seeking a two-phase rate increase that would raise residential rates by $17.83 per month in 2024 and an additional $10.25 per month in 2026. Duke officials claim the increase will cover technology upgrades and investments. Customers say they won't be able to afford the rate hike and worry especially for seniors on fixed incomes.
