Still no word on when the state department of education will release the results of this spring’s student testing. Superintendent Dr. Lisa Coons emailed staffers in June that the Standards of Learning pass rates would be released in September. But a spokesman tells “The Richmond Times-Dispatch” they could be out much earlier.

Storm season is ramping up in Virginia and so is the need for blood donors. Katie Niehoff [KNEE-hoff] runs the Coastal Chapter of The Virginia Red Cross. She tells News-10 she needed blood after delivering her son.....

So every year on her son's birthday the Niehoff's have a family blood drive. Giving blood is even more important in storm season because the need for blood increases at the same time the weather cancels blood drives.

Virginia’s new prisons chief says inmate overdose deaths are down sharply. Director Chadwick Dotson telling “The Richmond Times-Dispatch” this week the state’s prisons are in good shape. He says details on overdose deaths will be released soon. Dotson is a former judge from southwest Virginia who worked earlier on the state parole board.
