Independent candidate Bentley Hensel is a software engineer running a campaign to unseat Eighth District Democratic Congressman Don Beyer. Beyer's campaign said the congressman would not take part in an October 17th online debate, so Hensel used AI to create what he calls the "DonBot." DonBot uses information taken from Beyer's campaign website and press releases to answer questions on issues like abortion and gun control. OpenAI reportedly shut down the DonBot yesterday by blocking Hensel's ChatGPT account. But Hensel says he plans to have another version of the bot up and running in time for next week's debate.
