Experts say particle pollution, or soot, can lead to health issues like asthma attacks and heart problems. WAVY says the report also highlights the risks of ozone pollution, with nearly half of the U.S. population living in areas with failing grades for both types of pollution. Of the most polluted cities, none of those were in the southeast. ALA Advocacy Director Aleks Casper says they are urging Virginia policymakers to continue their commitment to improve our air quality and emphasizing the importance of addressing air quality to protect public health.
