Many social media platforms have posts with different people asking their Alexa device if Hurricane Helene was manipulated using a technology called cloud seeding or other weather modification. The devices respond that yes technology was used to alter the storm's path in an attempt to minimize potential compensation payouts. The first patent for a "Method of Artificially Influencing the Weather" was filed in 1962 and, in 2001, a patent was placed on file for a "Hurricane and Tornado control device". There have been several other related patents filed since, but a patent does not guarantee that the device or method works. As well, scientists are split on the outcome of many experiements. CNN reports that has not stopped the UAE, China, and the US from continuing efforts to control the weather. The situation raises important questions about the reliability of AI responses compared to government sources like FEMA.
