The violations included mistreatment of chinchillas and female olive baboons in 2023. The report outlined instances where animals exceeded weight loss limits, were not properly monitored during anesthesia, and had blood draws undocumented. Despite the violations, no sanctions were issued, but future violations could result in criminal penalties and sanctions. WTKR reports that the Animal rights group PETA expressed concerns over the mistreatment and called for immediate funding cuts from the National Institutes of Health.
