State Transportation officials are cautioning against leaving children in cars even in fall temperatures as low as 60 degrees, as vehicular heatstroke can occur quickly. Children's body temperatures can rise between three and five times faster than an adult's. So, parents and caregivers are reminded to always check the back seat before exiting the vehicle to prevent tragedies NHTSA reports over 970 children have died from heatstroke in hot cars. Steps to avoid hot car deaths include never leaving children unattended and bystanders should check for children in parked cars and call 911 if necessary.
