The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia announced the guilty plea by 51-year-old Pia Lawson yesterday. Investigators say Lawson was part of a 2021 conspiracy to steal a check worth more than 468-thousand dollars from a North Carolina business. She was accused of opening a fraudulent account to deposit the check and distribute the money to herself and other members of the conspiracy. She's set to be sentenced in March.
