(Chincoteague, VA) -- Popular beaches off the coast of Maryland and Virginia have closed due to medical waste washing up on shore. Rocio Rivera has more.Preview: Assateague State Park has been closed after used hypodermic needles and even tampons were found yesterday morning. Maryland officials closed all ocean-facing beaches to visitors and have banned all swimming, wading, surfing or any other activities in the ocean. The Assateague Island National Seashore is in both Maryland and Virginia and runs 37 miles long. Officials say they don't know when the beaches will reopen. Cleanup efforts are currently underway.
