Democratic Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine sent a letter to the Consumer Product Safety Commission yesterday urging the agency to adopt new standards for beach umbrellas. Statistics from the CPSC show that nearly three-thousand Americans are sent to the ER each year due to accidents related to detached beach umbrellas. The two senators have been working to improve safety standards since a woman from Chester, Virginia was killed by a dislodged umbrella in 2016.
