All Dominion Energy customers will see an 80% increase in the surcharge on their bills starting September 1st to fund the company's $9 billion dollar offshore wind farm project off the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. The State Corporation Commission approved the surcharge increase. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports the project aims to erect 176 wind turbines expecting to generate a total of 2,600 megawatts of electricity. Supporters of the wind farm project say it will be enough to power 660,000 homes by the end of 2026 - or approximately 26%, less than a third, of Dominion's 2 point 5 million VA customers. The project aligns with the Virginia Clean Economy Act's goal for Dominion to produce all electricity from renewable sources by 2045.
