The days where Arlington Public Schools students celebrate their birthdays with special treats appear to be numbered. The school board plans to consider a policy update April 25th that would ban in-classroom birthday treats whether they are healthy or not. Supporters point to similar policies already adopted by several other area school systems with worries about food allergies, classroom disruptions, and inequities between celebrations. Critics say the school birthday party could be the only celebration a child's family can afford, removing some student's chance at fun and the closest thing they will get to equity.
