It follows a listeria outbreak over the summer where at least nine people died and dozens others were hospitalized. The company issued a statement calling the incident a "dark moment" in their history. It says the Jarratt plant will close indefinitely and they will also permanently discontinue liverwurst. In addition, Boar's Head will be appointing a new Chief Food Safety and Quality Assurance Officer and establishing a Food Safety Council made up of independent industry-leading food safety experts.
