The brewery had chosen Norfolk for its large military and veteran community but cited profitability issues. The decision to relocate to a more supportive business environment came after controversy started surrounding brewery spokesman Robert O’Neill, the former U.S. Navy SEAL Team 6 member, making social media posts criticizing the Navy's choice to use "an enlisted sailor Drag Queen as a recruiter". O'Neill has spoke with John Bachman on Newsmax and pointed out that someone in the LGBTQ community would be the first target for traditional Muslim countries who are anti-LGBTQ and the service member would not be considered a threat by many of the nation's adversaries. The brewery plans to file criminal complaints against individuals who spread false information about the company.
