(Richmond, VA) -- The Virginia Department of Forestry is changing how it warns the public of state fire safety laws. Rocio Rivera has details.Preview: In a sign of the times, the signs are coming down. The Virginia Department of Forestry will now post on Facebook and Nextdoor reminding people of the burn ban during the spring and fall wildfire season. Burning anything within 300 feet of woods or dry grass in Virginia before 4 p.m. is illegal. Now foresters can spend time doing other things, like helping landowners or loggers, instead of physically putting up the signs and flipping them during the off season.
