(Richmond, VA) -- A longtime bus rider in Richmond is urging the Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC) to bring back paid fares following recent violence on and near buses.

Bowers tells CBS6 she believes that reinstating fares could help improve rider behavior and reduce incidents of violence. GRTC officials say they are working on enhancing safety measures, including adding more safety employees and partnering with VCU safety ambassadors. GRTC officials say fares are indefinitely free in order to connect residents to healthcare, jobs and families.
