Vice-Mayor Lisa Lucas-Burke is facing accusations that her campaign ads made false claims about corruption in the city government involving incumbent and mayor-elect Shannon Glover and the business in order to avoid paying taxes. The lawsuit claims that Lucas-Burke knowingly lied in the ad and refused to take it down, despite being informed by the owner that the business had paid all its taxes and was entitled to a tax refund. WAVY reports the owner's attorney is seeking $5 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages. Lucas-Burke, daughter of Senator Louise Lucas, declined to comment on the matter.
