UNITE HERE Local 25 tells WRIC that they want to sue over the election of Cordish Companies to operate the proposed casino in Petersburg. They say it violates the Freedom of Information Act because the decision to choose that company was done so behind closed doors. A spokesperson with the union says the city's request for proposal should have been done with "fairness" and "transparency" and, instead, led to a lack of open governance for Petersburg residents. The City Council chose Cordish Companies last week, it all hinges on voters to pass a casino referendum on November's ballot.
