Ferrone Claiborne and Terence Richardson were acquitted of killing a Sussex County police officer in 1998. But they were later given a life sentence when convicted on related drug charges in 2001. Governor Youngkin blasted Friday's clemency decision, saying he was "beyond outraged." Attorney General Jason Miyares said the decision illustrated an intention by Democrats to "build their vision of social justice on a pile of dead law enforcement officers." The NAACP of Virginia praised the decision, saying it was a "vital step toward correcting a grave injustice."
