Governor Youngkin commuted the three-year sentence of former Fairfax County Police Sergeant Wesley Shifflett on Sunday. Shifflett was found guilty of reckless handling of a firearm in the 2023 death of an unarmed shoplifter at Tysons Corner Mall. The Virginia Legislative Black Caucus condemned the action yesterday, calling it reckless and a gross misuse of power by the governor.
