(Richmond, VA) -- Former Virginia House candidate is accused of fraudulently obtaining hundreds of thousands of dollars in COVID-related funds. Katie Gray reports.Preview: SCRIPT:
Former General Assembly candidate Sheila Bynum-Coleman and her husband have been indicted on nearly a dozen felony charges, including fraudulently obtaining at least $225,000 in COVID-related government funds. The couple is accused of submitting false claims and statements to receive unemployment insurance benefits and Paycheck Protection Program Loans. WTVR reports that Prosecutors allege they used the funds for personal expenses and to support Bynum-Coleman's political campaign. Bynum-Coleman previously ran for the House of Delegates in 2019 and was involved in a separate legal case in Henrico.
