Representative Gerry Connolly recently won his 9th reelection to Congress. He also recently announced that he has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. The 75 year-old plans to undergo chemotherapy and immunotherapy but expects to continue his duties with some fatigue. WTOP reports Connolly does not anticipate his diagnosis affecting his ability to serve another term. Esophageal cancer is relatively rare, affecting approximately 0.5% of people in the U.S. at some point in their lifetime.
