With the 45-day deadline approaching, council voted to ask the city attorney to petition the circuit court to make the appointment. Three finalists have been considered for the position, but council has not been able to reach a majority decision. Former Mayor Sherman Lea tells WFXR he is frustrated with the situation and emphasized the importance of working together for the city's benefit. The circuit court may choose not to make an appointment if they feel the decision would be "strictly political."
