Only essential purchases will be allowed during the reset period, which is expected to last 60 to 90 days. The Department of Procurement Services has contracted with NIGP to independently assess the program and provide recommendations for improvements. The city will implement updated policies, train staff, and potentially change card providers before ending the reset period. CBS6 reports it comes on the heels of the Richmond Public Schools auditor finding a drastic increase in total annual p-card spending across the division from $636-thousand dollars in 2020 to $2.7 million dollars in 2024 - including the improper logging of purchases. The city's updated purchasing card policies will be made public once finalized.
