Between January and March, the agency's Firearms Transaction Center identified 529 people who were trying to buy guns illegally and had them arrested. Reasons for the arrests include prior or pending felony convictions, people with a history of drug addiction or domestic violence and those with mental health issues. A spokesman says the program has not only aided crime prevention but has stopped many potential suicides. Since 2020, the program has resulted in over ten-thousand arrests.
