(Fairfax County, VA) -- Fairfax County is thinking about getting rid of crossing guards at local high schools. Rocio Rivera has details.Preview: The county says it's trying to save money and resources from it's close to $300 million dollar budget shortfall. Currently Fairfax County's police department oversees the crossing guard program, but they've recently run into staffing shortages. So, the county is thinking of hiring a private company to help with the cross walks. In total, about 16 crossing guard positions would be eliminated from 22 high schools, saving the county more than $840- thousand dollars. Final approval of the budget is scheduled for May. I'm RR.
