>>Legislation on New Data Centers Almost to Governor Youngkin's Desk
(Richmond, VA) -- The Virginia House must approve an amendment made by the Senate to add more regulation to data centers. Virginia is considered the data center capital of the world and the legislation would mean companies seeking to build data centers in the commonwealth will also need additional approval from the locality they plan to build in. The bill requires applicants to submit a sound profile of the data center if it is near residential areas or schools. WRIC reports it also mandates an investigation into the potential effects of the data center on water, agriculture, parks, historic sites, and the surrounding land. Existing data centers in Virginia with approved rezoning will not be affected by the new regulations.
