The daycare, Fortress of God Childcare, was cited for violations when a 17-year-old employee left four children unsupervised, leading to one child escaping the facility. The Virginia Department of Education notified the daycare of its intent to revoke the religious exemption, but Fortress of God has appealed the decision and remains open as it contests the state's efforts. WTVR reports that the facility has made safety improvements and addressed fire code violations while awaiting a final decision from a hearing officer.
