(Richmond, VA) -- The Virginia Department of Transportation is warning drivers across the state of deer mating season. Rocio Rivera has more.Preview: VDOT says drivers should be aware of more deer on the roads right now, which could cause more accidents. Officials say to be especially cautious at dawn and dusk when deer are more likely to be out on roadsides foraging. Deer are also more active in the fall from mid-October through November. Daylight Saving Time is also near, which means more drivers will be out in the dark. VDOT says if you do see a deer while on the road, don't swerve to avoid hitting it as you could lose control of your car. Also, slow down if you see a deer since they travel in groups. And be extra alert when driving near streams and rivers. VDOT says last year, 42% of car crashes involving deer happened in October and November. I'm RR.
