Sarah Peltier, a biologist with the Virginia Department of Natural Resources says residents are noticing more deer in rural and urban areas and they are causing damage to landscaping and crops. Lynchburg city officials are considering stricter regulations, including a year-round ban on feeding deer and promoting urban archery to help manage the population. Experts tell WDBJ it is important for people to practice responsible hunting methods to control the deer population and reduce the number of deer-related vehicle accidents as well as decrease the spread of diseases, like tick-borne Lyme disease.
