The Virginia Derby will be a stepping stone for America's most famous horse race. Governor Glenn Youngkin announced yesterday the annual race at Colonial Downs in New Kent County will be on a dirt track, and it'll be a qualifier for the Kentucky Derby. The Virginia Derby winner next March will get 50 qualifying points for May's race at Churchill Downs. Youngkin says this will reinvigorate Virginia's proud legacy of thoroughbred racing and secure our place as a world class destination for racing fans and equine talent from around the world. He adds the future for thoroughbred racing in Virginia has never been brighter.
