Fairfax County, VA) -- Researchers recently discovered 11 new gravesites believed to be of enslaved African Americans at Bull Run Regional Park in Fairfax County. Katie Gray reports.

The newest discovery adds to the 91 previously found graves in 2022. Researchers say The site was once a plantation owned by Robert Carter III, who emancipated his 500 slaves in 1791, marking one of the largest emancipations before the Civil War. Chrystal Gaskins, a Descendant of those who were freed, tells news 7 her ancestors' went on to purchase land, farms, ran businesses, and they even went on to open 18 churches in Fairfax County. She says she will continue to honor her ancestors' legacy and history at the site.
