Changes are coming to Virginia area first responders with how they normally restock and keep drugs used on calls. The new rules will go into effect in November and will require responders to stock up ahead of time on the drugs they use in the field. It will also require EMS and fire departments to buy special storage units to monitor the on-hand supply of drugs used to treat patients. Virginia Fire Chiefs Association President Vance Cooper tells WAVY the new rules will make it harder for small, rural departments struggling to stay open. The Virginia Fire Chiefs Association and the Board of Pharmacy are set to iron out details on the new rules in the coming weeks. I'm RR.
