A recent study found patients taking Ozempic or Wegovy were more likely to be diagnosed with a rare condition called NAION than those not taking the drugs. The study done by Mass General Brigham researchers say these diabetes and weight-loss drugs have been associated with an increased risk of a stroke of the optic nerve, which health experts explain can lead to blindness. Researchers tell USA today more researched is still needed and that they have no evidence that these medications are causing potentially blinding condition, merely that the study found those taking them were at a greater risk of developing it.
