The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers are trying to attract and retain employees in the electric vehicle industry through incentives and support for training programs. The Virginia Mercury reports the state is also exploring opportunities in battery manufacturing, but challenges remain with environmental concerns related to mining for minerals, like cobalt, lithium and other rare earth elements used in electric vehicle batteries, typically imported from overseas with few regulations for miners. Overall, Virginia is making strides in the electric vehicle industry but continues to face obstacles.
