Experts say that egg prices in the United States have more than doubled since the summer of 2023 due to a bird flu outbreak that has affected millions of chickens, resulting in shortages. The latest reports show that the average price of eggs per dozen nationwide hit $4.15 in December compared to $4.82, but those prices are expected to continue to rise as challenges persist. Farmers telling WCSC the rise in prices has made it challenging for farms to produce eggs for grocery stores and restaurants. The United States Department of Agriculture predicts prices are going to continue to rise another 20% in 2025.
