Residents can get information on applying for federal assistance from county workers and help with the application. Residents are encouraged to read the entirety of all documents before you sign. County officials want to make sure people understand that FEMA, and not the county, will decide what type of assistance someone will get and when it will come. Allyson Williams, the public information officer for the county, tells WDBJ residents should be cautious of scammers and verify the proper identification and proper licensing of people or companies you decide to hire for help. If you are unsure, Williams suggests you call your local building department.
