Virginia Beach City Council members, like Rosemary Wilson, have supported a proposal for improved cancer and cardiovascular screenings for firefighters.Preview: Fire Chief Ken Pravetz explained to council members the high risks firefighters face for cardiac issues and cancer, with the average age for a firefighter to have a heart attack being 49 years old. Pravetz says a proposed preventative program estimated to cost $800-thousand dollars a year could potentially save the city money in the long run.
