The state Department of Forestry is asking Virginians to collect acorns, chestnuts and walnuts over the next few weeks. The agency wants to replant nuts and acorns from healthy oak, chestnut and walnut trees to help encourage forest growth around the state. Donations can be dropped off at any Department of Forestry office through October 15th. More details on packaging and labeling donations are available on the Department of Forestry website.
