The Virginia Department of Health is providing free test kits for residents with private drinking water wells affected by Hurricane Helene flooding in Southwest Virginia. Wells submerged during the flooding are likely contaminated, even if undamaged. Residents in specific counties can request a free test kit after disinfecting and flushing their wells. Kits can be obtained by calling the VDH Call Center or completing an online survey and must be returned to designated locations for testing.
