U.S. Central Command says an F/A-18 fighter was shot down after it took off from the USS Harry S. Truman on Sunday. The guided-missile cruiser USS Gettysburg reportedly fired on the fighter by mistake. The two Navy pilots in the fighter ejected safely, though one may have suffered minor injuries during the ejection. The Truman and the Gettysburg are both stationed in Norfolk, while the F/A-18 and its crew are reportedly assigned to Virginia's Naval Air Station Oceana. A full investigation into the friendly fire incident is already underway.
