The study found people born between the late 1960s and mid-1980s have been exposed to lead due to car exhaust fumes. Leaded gas was widely used starting in the 1920s and remained in the air for decades later. Researchers used historical data on lead gas consumption and national blood lead surveillance to estimate childhood lead exposure for people who are now in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. Lead exposure is now known to have adverse effects on mental health and cognitive development. Exposure in early childhood can also disrupt brain development and lead to disorders like ADHD, depression, and anxiety. I'm RR.
