Lawmakers passed just over half of the bills introduced this year. One bill requires waterworks owners to report negligence at water plants to the Virginia Department of Health within 24 hours. Another bill removes tax exemptions from Confederate-related organizations, while a bill inspired by a high school football player who died during practice provides guidelines for extreme heat and protections for student-athletes. WRIC reports several bills, including those capping toll charges and enhancing school safety, were rejected. Governor Glenn Youngkin has until March 24 to approve, amend, or veto the passed bills.
