Democrat Abigail Spanberger and Republican Winsome Earle-Sears both turned in their paperwork yesterday, the first day candidates for state and local offices could turn in their petitions. While Spanberger's campaign says they submitted more than 40-thousand signatures, nationally the Democratic Party faces record-low favorability ratings, according to new polls from NBC News and CNN. In contrast, as the state's first female woman of color lieutenant governor, Earle-Sears campaign gathered nearly 20-thousand signatures, or about half as many. Any additional candidates must file to run by April 3rd.
