Over 150 cities have conducted or are running pilot programs for Guaranteed or Universal BAsic Incomes. Programs from Mayors for Guaranteed Incomes in Richmond, VA, which targeted low income individuals, has shown positive outcomes such as better housing and food security, improved mental health, and better parent-child relationships. Although only 18 families were studied in Richmond at $500 per month for 24 months.The positives of these pilot programs are at odds with a larger study by the University of Michigan that gave 1000 people $1000 for 3 years and a control group of 2000 people only 50 per month for the same period, where the benefits gained were short lived.
