The store, founded in 1883, has been a beloved fixture in the community, with three generations of the Brown family running the business. Current owner John Taylor, who worked under the late Hugh Brown, tells WUSA9 it was a difficult decision to close after receiving an offer on the building. Customers shared fond memories of the personalized service and minor repairs offered by the store, which will remain open until all inventory is sold. The closure, likely around mid-March, marks the end of an era for many in the community who are sad to see the store go.
