The Albermarle Charlottesville Historical Society voted last week to decommission the Hatton Ferry. The Scottsville Monthly says safety concerns and problems with low water in the river may have led to the decision. The pole-operated ferry had been operating near Scottsville since the 1870s. It's considered to be the last pole-operated ferry in the U.S. The Hatton Ferry has run on a weekend schedule for a while, and operated by the historical society for 15-years.
