A state historical marker will be dedicated to the historically African American neighborhood of Washington Park in Richmond. The dedication ceremony will take place on Saturday at St. John Baptist Church, with the unveiling of the marker outside the church. The Washington Park Community, established in the 1860s, was a thriving neighborhood with significant cultural and historical significance. The City of Richmond annexed part of the Washington Park community in 1914 and the rest in 1942, with notable figures like Dr. Roy West, Richmond's second Black mayor, growing up in the neighborhood.
