The Richmond-based nonprofit Homeward has released the results of its Point-In-Time Count. The report shows that 585 people were experiencing homelessness in the Greater Richmond area on the night of July 24th. That's one-hundred more than what was recorded last summer. At least half of those residents were sheltered, while the rest were on the streets. The primary reasons people listed for becoming homeless include family breakdowns, unemployment, and cost of living. The region saw its highest unhoused population in 2021 with nearly seven-hundred. Homeward offers a variety of community resources for those in need, as well as volunteer opportunities through Homeward-VA-dot-org.
